Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji`s birthday is celebrated all over the country with religious fervor and gaiety. This day is also known as Guru Purab. Guru Nanak Dev is the founder of Sikhism and is also the first guru of Sikhs.Guru Nanak Dev Ji`s birthday falls on Kartik Poornima In 2011 the Guru Purab date is 10 the November 2011.On this day the people of Sikh Community visit the Gurudwaras to pay obeisance to the God .The center of attraction on this day is Golden Temple in Amritsar. People from all over the country pay a vsit to holy shrine on this Pious day.
In all 10 Guru Purabs are celebrated throughout the year.Except from the Hymns that are chanted the celebrations remain similar.Two days before the Guru Purab a 48 hour non stop "Akhand Paath" is organized in all the Guru Dwaras.A day before the Gura Purab a major religious procession is organized which is carried by "Panj Payaras".They head the procession carrying the Sikh flag, known as the Nishan Sahib and the Palki (Palanquin) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
